Tampa Preparatory School is excited to announce the formation of a new group of students called TPS Animation. The five students involved worked closely with the schools Business Manager to solve a traffic problem that the school faced due to major water and drainage renovations being completed by the City of Tampa. Tampa Prep was faced with the problem of explaining a challenging new traffic pattern to teachers and students that would affect the entire school community for a year. The TPS Animation students were approached to create a series of animated videos explaining the different situations where the traffic pattern would be changing.
TPS Animation worked under the guidance of a freshman project manager, who answered directly to Tampa Preps Business Manager Steve Garrett. Mr. Garrett oversaw the project, conveying the requirements and details to the students involved: Adam Hunter, Jonah Kornberg, Jeremy Leeds, John Morrison and narrator Trent Miller. “These kids demonstrated talent and impressive time management skills,” Steve Garrett said. “They represented themselves as absolute professionals I would hire them in a minute!”
These students were able to use skills that they have learned through involvement in different activities at Tampa Prep. To create these videos, students use Autodesk Maya, Blender, 3DS Max and Final Cut Pro. Having working knowledge of these difficult programming tools will benefit these students in achieving career goals throughout college and life. During the two-month period it took to complete this project, students worked during their own time to brainstorm, program and create these impressive animation videos.
I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to work on the Animation project. This experience allowed me to collaborate with a great team and the Tampa Prep faculty in order to produce the videos, expressed Adam Hunter, the project manager. Not only did this project turn into the informational videos, but it also gave me real-world experience in deadlines, content creation and improved my work ethic. I have been very fortunate over the past few months to be able to work on this project, and look forward to future projects.
All the students are heavily involved in TPTV, Tampa Preps video production program. TPTV students live stream important events and produce, star in and film weekly episodes for students to enjoy. Along with an incredible video production program, Tampa Prep students have the opportunity to focus their studies through a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) concentration beginning in 10th grade. In addition to studying these fields, students are encouraged to participate in one of the several extracurricular activities offered at Tampa Prep that complement the STEM program. Following graduation, it is the goal of the program that students have had a range of experiences to prepare them for further opportunities in these fields.
